The study is being conducted by a Newcastle University Student.

Lachlan Stronach who is conducting the study is in his final year at the University of Newcastle studying business, majoring in management combined with a degree in innovation and entrepreneurship.

Lachlan Stronach said, “I endeavour to work in the property sector when I graduate this semester and will begin a masters in property at UTS while working full time.”

Lachlan understands the barriers to business as he has 2 start-ups that he is working on as well as finishing his degree.

“I am passionate about supporting Port Stephens as I have spent a lot of time there over the years ,” he said.

Leah Anderson President of the Tomaree Business Chamber is excited by the concepts and progress so far.

She believes that a campus will see less youth leakage away from the Bay and an increase in activation of the Nelson Bay CBD.

Leah Anderson president of the Tomaree Business Chamber told News Of The Area, “At present we are proposing an innovative use of the space where the Donald Street East car park is sited, with study and retail hubs as well as parking on the Council owned site.

“While it is early days we have some positive engagement with the University of Newcastle and the concept would include a 24/7 access study space for all students and would look to accommodate start-up businesses in areas such as marine industries.”

The Tomaree Business Chamber believes that the CBD of Nelson Bay has a recognised need for increased activation, every extra person that passes through the trading area daily will undoubtedly make a big difference to the look and feel of the precinct,” she said.
