Only three teams went through undefeated with; Tom Short, Graham Kelly and Dennis Ashbridge again showed their consistency with + 53 points.

For five weeks running Brian Emmett’s team of Paul Carter and Gary Porter were in the winner’s circle but lost on a count back to a game of Pairs which included a visitor from Manly David Rust.

He joined with Graham (half back) Watkins to win with 55 points.

The Myall Bistro voucher went to George Winter.

11 May: It was a wild and woolly day for bowls with 12 players braving the conditions in Friday Open Pairs.

It is hoped that next week, with the Pennant Grade 6 team enjoying a bye, that there will be an increase in attendance.

12 May: There were mixed results in the NDBA Saturday Pennant competition today with the Pelican Pest Control sponsored Grade 4 side playing at home against Mayfield West.

The game certainly wasn’t assisted by the horrible weather with gale-force winds adding yet another degree of difficulty for precision play.

I guess the Grade 4 side will not blame the wind for their loss with the Mark Hair four the best performed going down by 4 shots 18-23.

The Jeff Baker combination lost 14-22 and in the remaining game, the Keith Smith combination were beaten, 15-28.
Next week Grade 4 play away at Mayfield.

By contrast, it was all good news for the Pelican Pest Control Grade 6 side played away at Lemon Tree Passage and the weather there, though dry, was appalling.

Tea Gardens trailed for most of the match with the Ron James four having a disastrous start, dropping 10 shots in just four ends.

The remaining teams held it all together and with each team having 5 ends to play, Lemon Tree Passage held the lead 47-43.

It was a great comeback for the side with the Ron James four recovering to lose by just one shot, 17-18.

The Anthony Grant team powered home winning their match 20-15 and not to be outdone, the Noel Jackson side recorded a fabulous win 25-20.

The Grade 6 side have a bye next week with their next game on 26 May away at East Maitland.

In other news, the Club Championship Major Singles will recommence with Round 2 next Sunday, 20 May.

There are some great match-ups scheduled for this round and some good bowls assured.
