Play difficult at times due to gusty S/SE winds blowing 20 to 30km/h.

On Rink 2 Christine Fossey, Dorothy Thompson and Julie Kennedy had a convincing victory against Francis Betar, Jan Kuzmic and Jill McBride 26 v 11. Good to see Christine and Jan back at bowls. The game on Rink 3 was a win for Judi Polak, Carol Hayden, Pam Gilchrist and Maynie Roberts 18 v Jean Glover, Lynda Richards, Carolyn Bywater and Karen McPhie 10.

On the 15th end Karen’s side had narrowed the lead to just 3 shots but Maynie’s team gained 5 shots over the next 3 ends giving them a decisive win. On Rink 4 Bev Dunn, Lily Smith and Karen Green held the lead from start to finish defeating Lyn Nightingale, Jo Younghusband and Elizabeth Kelly 21 v 14.

A similar tale on the next rink. Kerry Faber, Wilma Drake and Dale Winter holding an 8 shot lead on the 15th end against Bette Saillard, Wendy Jones and Sandra Leisemann, but the tables nearly turned. Sandra’s team scored 6 shots over the next two ends narrowing the winning margin by just 2 shots.

With only one end left to be played Dale’s side rallied and scored 2 shots, giving them a win 20 v 16. Winners on the day decided by 4 points for a win plus ends were Judi Polak, Carol Hayden, Pam Gilchrist and Maynie Roberts.

Thursday 22nd March: No social bowls played due to wet weather. A few desperados hung around and eventually had a “roll up”.

Happy 100th birthday to our retired member Jan McDonald. It was my pleasure to visit Jan at Peter Sinclair Gardens and present her with a bunch of flowers on behalf of TGWBC. Jan played bowls with our club for many years.

Her achievements during this time include winning the following Club Championships. The Fours in 1968 and 1991, the Pairs 1984 and 1991, the Minor Singles 1988 and the Triples 1998. A truly remarkable lady.

Coming events R.S.L. Pairs scheduled for the 5th April.
