As a participating Show, each year the Newcastle AH&I Association selects a young woman to be an ambassador for both the Newcastle Regional Show and the Newcastle Community in this prestigious competition. With the increasing popularity of the Showgirl movement statewide, there is a need to connect with younger women to assist them transition into the Senior Competition. For 2018, the Newcastle Regional Show Teen Showgirl Competition is open to teenage girls born after 1 May 2001, and on or before 1 May 2004. Girls will be aged from 13 years and nine months to less than 17 as of 1 May 2018, Girls who reside, are educated or work within the Local Government Areas of Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or Port Stephens for at least 3 months prior to the Newcastle Regional Show in the year of the Competition and Girls with a passion for their local community. Agricultural knowledge is not essential. During the Newcastle Show, the three girls will participate in a variety of activities and they will be judged on their presentation and public speaking abilities on the last day. “We are really excited to be a part of this competition and gaining valuable experience to improve our leadership skills,” described Haley. “We really enjoy the idea of being able to share our passion for agriculture in our local community,” said Hannah. “It is a privilege to be given this opportunity and we will represent ourselves, school and community to the best of our ability,” said Ebony.
