She held members entranced by her personal story of how living with a guide dog is an essential and wonderful part of her and her family’s life.

She spoke about The Guide Dogs NSW/ACT breeding programme and how puppies that are selected spend their first year of life with a puppy raising family.

After their year in foster care the puppies that have been identified as having what it takes to be a Guide Dog undergo a six-month intensive training which costs $35,000 for each dog.

Cathryn’s story is one of courage and love.

Julia Redlich of the Fingal Bay Probus Club told News Of The Area, “Chloe was just one of the four guide dogs that Cathryn spoke about at the meeting and she also talked about how they have given her the freedom to live a near normal life.”

Cathyrn’s current guide Dog is Chloe a Labrador, who is four years old.

The Guide Dogs and their owners are taught a range of commands so that they can communicate and have confidence in their dog.

“Much as members longed to pat her, Cathryn told our members that dogs such as Chloe should not be distracted when they are involved in their vitally important work,” she said.
