Unlike last week when bowls were washed-out, today’s sunny weather attracted 53 bowlers for the Nominated Fours competition.

At the end of proceedings, five teams were unbeaten on 55 points and the judges needed a three-way countback to decide the winning team.

Just sneaking over the line was the triples team of; Ross Barry, Peter King and Danny Johnson.

Sunday Mixed Bowls enjoyed the company of the Stockton travelling bowlers today.

It was a very successful day with both greens being used to accommodate 68 bowlers including many Tea Gardens players who came along to support the event.

The organisers appreciated the efforts of Ron Webster and John Atherton, who did the cooking, and the many lady helpers who ensured that the day was a winner.

Following the morning festivities, the much awaited final of the Club Minor Singles Championship was played with undoubtedly the two best players rising to the top and facing off for the title.

Both Ross Barry and Neil Kibble are both experienced draw bowlers and the final was a great example of their craft.
The match was to run over 36 ends and at the 11th end, Neil had his nose in front.

Unfortunately, he was stuck on 8 shots for the next 7 ends with Ross powering away to set up a commanding 12 shot lead at the 20th.

Neil was not done; he won six of the next eight ends to get within 3 shots at the 27th.

At about this point, Neil conceded the mat and Ross was back in his comfort zone.

Playing some wonderful narrow-side bowls Ross made another surge and although conceding a 3 at the 35th his momentum carried him over the line to win 31-26.

It was a wonderful final enjoyed by a knowledgeable gallery.

Congratulations to both players for a skilful display of great bowls.

Thanks to Marker, Col Amos and the umpire, Bill Thrift.

The Minor Singles Champion for 2018, Ross Barry!
