In September last year, the Club members decided the better option was to convert to a Combined Probus Club with both male and female members.

The Club has been in existence for 34 years, and during that time the members have enjoyed the fun, fellowship and friendship that is the backbone of what Probus is all about.

The opportunity now exists for both singles and couples to continue to experience this camaraderie in the monthly meetings and the other activities organised away from the formal sessions.

Probus is an Association for retired or semi-retired people who join together in clubs with the aim of providing regular opportunities for members to keep their minds active, expand their interests and enjoy the fellowship of new friends.

The emphasis is on Clubs being free of the constraints and obligations of Service Clubs, involving members at minimal cost.

To that end, for the Raymond Terrace Combined Probus Club, activities fall into three parts:

A formal meeting on the third Friday of each month held at Raymond Terrace Bowling Club from 10am – 12pm comprising a Club Business Session, followed by morning tea and a Guest Speaker.

Outings to places of interest to members held between meetings such as day trips, theatre or social and sporting events. These may include overnight trips or tours.

Inter and intra club interest groups such as dining out, card games, discussion groups, tennis, golf, bowls, or walking and coffee Clubs.

Ray Davies, Program Director and Publicity Officer, told News Of The Area, “We organise Guest Speakers and we try to make the subject matter varied and interesting.”

“This year we have had speakers on bee keeping, the history of terrorism, Cyclone Tracy (from someone who was there!), your wellbeing, Bush Poetry and a Travel Industry representative to name a few.”

“Among the trips our member Ron has organised, there have been a visit to the Scone Races, a cruise on the Manning River, a Harbour Cruise and a Mystery Trip,” he said.
