Guests were able to wander through the gardens and meadows and enjoy afternoon tea made from fresh local produce on the sprawling porches of the 100 year old home. As part of the trail, Cath said Billabong Cottage hosted a group of local producers, giving visitors the opportunity to sample loads of summer treats. “I want to become part of the community, it is good for us all to come together and get involved,” she said. The Food Trail was launched last year and takes visitors on a self-drive tour of the region’s wineries, cafes and farms. Coordinator Julie Steepe from Lucy Land Merino Farm said the trail emphasises the ethical and chemical free approach utilised by a network of local producers. “It is all about connecting the producers with the community,” she said. “People have been very interested in seeing where their food comes from and we have answered a lot of questions about how we produce the items.” Julie said it is hoped that the event will continue to be held quarterly to highlight the region’s seasonal produce while contributing to the growth of local tourism.
