Young local athlete Keira McGregor has just returned from her first International competition with more medals to her credit.

The 11 year old student from Medowie Christian School was competing in the Pacific Games alongside 4,000 other young athletes from 15 countries.

Keira’s results were remarkable for one so young.

She came second in the long jump and received silver medal.

In the 4 x 100 relay Keira brought the NSW team home in record breaking time to take out the Gold Medal.

She had 2 other relay events where NSW also won.

“I wish to thank my coach Charles Ringuet for the hundreds of hours spent training through heat and rain over the past four years,” Keira said.

Her Dad, John also has many people to thank.

“We wish to convey our heartfelt thanks to the many clubs, organisations and people who provided generous support and encouragement to Keira, enabling her to get to Adelaide and compete in such a prestigious event.”

“In particular we want to thank, the Karuah RSL Club, The Big Brown House, The Myall Lions Club, The Tea Gardens Baptist Church, The Tea Gardens Bridge Club, The Tea Gardens Masonic Lodge, The Raymond Terrace Athletics Club and all the people who bought raffle tickets,” John said.

“Our special thanks goes to Keira’s school, Medowie Christian School, for their generous assistance, and their continuous support and guidance to Keira throughout the year.”

”Finally we wish to give our thanks to our family and friends living in Victoria for their financial support and the great pair of sprinting spikes.”

As a footnote, Keira had no sooner returned from Adelaide when she was again back on the track at the Little Athletics Zone championships and made another record breaking 4.98 metre leap in the high jump.
