Recently, the Nelson Bay Rotary Club held a special night to recognise community volunteers and business leaders.

Over 60 Club members, recipients and guests attended the evening, where 11 Rotary Immortal Badges were presented, three more are still to be awarded by those unable to attend.

Nelson Bay Rotary Club Foundation Director, John Cropley announced the awards, he highlighted the $100 per badge awarded which recognised those who have made a difference in our local community, in a variety of different ways.

The $1,400 for the badges will be contributed to the Rotary Endowment Fund which will continue to provide ongoing interest enabling Rotary to carry out various projects, both locally and internationally.

The Rotary Foundation is Rotary’s Charity arm.

Club President, Kathy Rimmer told News Of The Area, “Recognising those in our community that make a real difference is important to our Club.”

She believes that the club’s commitment to working with local businesses, volunteers and other community groups makes a very real difference both in terms of immediate change and a legacy for the future.

“It is important to recognise those that make our community what it is,” she said.

The recipients of the Immortals Awards were Claire Morrison, Val Morris, Mavis Shaw, Rory and Sue Milne, Lorraine Nichol, Fiona Whatham, Dr Tony Plummer and wife Vera, Sally Dover, Barbara Arathoon.

Terry and Kay Fogg, and Karen Pittman were unable to attend the presentation and will be awarded their Immortals Badges at a later date.
