They received the ‘Research Award’ and ‘Inspiration Award’ respectively. The Regional Final was held at Baulkham Hills North Public School and the Raymond Terrace Public School team was the only Hunter based school competing besides Cessnock Public. They competed against both private schools, home-school groups and Public Education groups. Raymond Terrace Public School teacher Mrs van de Wijgaart told News Of The Area, “The double win highlights the excellence of our 21st Century learners and is a celebration of quality Public Education.” “This was my first year as a First Lego League robotic coach and it was an exceptional STEM achievement for both teams to come away with trophies in the competition.” Jackson Cheetham, one of the team members, said, “This was the best day EVER!” “I love robot coding.” The First Lego League robotic competition challenges young people to think like scientists and engineers. Teams work together to choose and solve a real-world problem. They are also required to build, test, and program an autonomous robot using Lego mindstorms technology to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game On Friday 24 November, three teams of Raymond Terrace Public School students will travel to Saint Phillip’s Christian College to complete a whole-day RoboCup Junior Workshop. Mrs van de Wijgaart said, “Our aim is to compete in RoboCup Junior in 2018.” “On this day children will learn to code rescue, soccer and dance programming, using the same Lego Mindstorm EV3 robots.” By Rachael VAUGHAN The unique trophies made from Lego, presented to the Raymond Terrace Public School teams.
