The talented pair attended the opening night of the exhibition last saturday night, rubbing shoulders with the distinguished guests also invited to the official opening. In addition to the many talented Indigenous artists exhibited, the night was also attended by sponsors and politicians, no doubt looking for the next great piece for their offices or homes. The function featured traditional Aboriginal dances and songs, as well as an official Welcome to Country. Peter is proud of his family and their cultural connection to their art. He told News Of The Area, “The biggest influence on me was a great artist, my late Auntie Gloria.” “My works are based on stories that have been told by Elders and also from recollections from dreams.” “I am a very spiritual person and in tune with my environment, so I like to reflect that in my paintings,” he said. It should be noted that all exhibitions at Art in the Vines are for sale. So, if you consider yourself an art lover, you may well end up taking home one of Peter’s masterpieces. Or you may just end up seeing one in a Doctor or politician’s office near you. By Rachael VAUGHAN
