DETERMINED residents and Wanda the Koala presented Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer with a basket filled with petitions and residents submissions against the proposed development on the parcel of land adjacent to the Mambo Wanda Wetlands. Or media@newsofthearea.com.au Or CLICK FOR ADVERT QUOTE The Mambo Wanda Wetlands Conservation Group with their koala mascot delivered the mayor with a very clear message from the community of Port Stephens that any development on this land is unacceptable. 1094 residents signed the petition against the development and the group also presented plus 535 individual submissions which will be added to those which have been submitted to council direct. The group’s secretary Kathy Brown says, “it is our immediate priority to ensure that this DA for two dwellings and a long access road is refused by Council.” Perhaps the most touching submissions on the day were handed to Councillor Palmer by Hamish and Maddy Baxter. The children had hand written their submissions in Texta and personally delivered them to the mayor. Hamish said, “Mambo Wetlands Rock”. Port Stephens Mayor Ryan Palmer told News Of The Area, “We know this is a very important parcel of land and that the councillors would read every last one of the submissions made by the community giving careful consideration would be given to community input.” KaThe Mambo Wanda Conservation Group believes that any development would irreparably damage an environment with high ecological values, including habitat of the endangered Port Stephens koala population and other threatened species.
