Geoff is the President of the Tomaree Residents and Ratepayers Association (TRRA) and has a long history in tourism planning.

In his working career Geoff Washington was a senior policy advisor for both Federal and State Government Ministers and was involved in building the strategic tourism plans that have developed the iconic Australian regions of Uluru and the Great Barrier Reef.

Geoff Washington told News Of The Area, “I like to be of assistance and to get better results for the community.”

Although now retired Geoff believes that he has a wealth of knowledge that our community can benefit from.

He believes that local groups like the TRRA and Landcare groups have had a positive impact on the region.

“It is a pity that the town centre area of Nelson Bay doesn’t have a Landcare Group as this would improve the look of the township.”

Through his role with the TRRA he believes that the group has assisted in improving plans and outcomes for the area.

“We drill down through the facts to get to the bottom of things and we monitor council activities, we are keen to see a new town centre strategy with view sharing and good parking ratios,” he said.

Geoff has a vision to see a museum and interpretative centre built at Nelson Bay which would encompass the regions natural history, indigenous history and culture and war history.

He believes that the community may be able to access Federal Government Grant Schemes to fund a project of this scope.

  1. Wonderful! Just what a gorgeous yet vulnerable little town like Port Stephens and its Nelson Bay needs, a passionate and fair person to provide wise methods to make informed choices and decisions for the area’s future. To be helping locals and visitors access a balanced growth and vision of Nelson Bay and its environs and to preserve its past heritage.
