Staffed solely by volunteers, these two services work hand in hand to provide support to the community across several areas during the week.

Orange Sky Laundry offers residents a chance to wash their clothes, while DARA’s van provides you a home cooked delicious meal.

The volunteers from Orange Sky Laundry and DARA, which stands for development and relief agency, provide hospitality and friendship to anyone in need, offering you a warm meal, a clean load of clothes and a friendly ear.

This collaborative team offers an invaluable service to a growing number of visitors to the vans across Newcastle and Port Stephens each week.

DARA chief officer Barry Urwin told News Of The Area, “This service is open to people from all walks of life, no cards or concessions are needed, we just aim to support the whole community.”

“As with all new services, it will take time for the word to spread around, but we’d like some families to come down, have a meal with us, wash some clothes and take a little bit of pressure off the week.”

“Our volunteers at all venues are kind, compassionate people who just want to contribute to the community, so we’re looking forward to getting to know lots of new faces,” he said.

DARA’s Van and Orange Sky laundry will be at Anna Bay every monday from 6-8:30pm at the All Saints Anglican Church.

They will be in Raymond Terrace every Wednesday night from 6-8:30pm, behind the Marketplace Shopping Centre in the Bourke Street Car park next to the Skate Park.

There is also a current opening for more Volunteers to be a ‘Van Assistant’, which can be found on seek.com
Spread the word and make sure our community knows about this very important new program.
