FOLLOWING in the footsteps of Metford Neighbourhood Watch, Medowie Neighbourhood watch has begun fundraising for some important pieces of equipment that will potentially benefit the residents of Medowie.

Medowie Neighbourhood Watch members are currently in the process of raising the funds needed to purchase portable CCTV cameras that will then be able to be loaned to Medowie residents free of charge.

Any resident who wishes to obtain footage of anything happening on their property will be able to loan a camera, and obtain footage to provide to police.

Founding member of the recently relaunched Medowie Neighbourhood Watch, Geoff Dingle, told News Of The Area, “The cameras, while reasonably priced, are an extra cost many families cannot afford.”

“We hope to be able to add the funds we raise to grant money and purchase a ‘library of cameras’ that can be loaned out on a contractual basis.”

“The camera footage could provide evidence-based material to police,” he said

The cameras can be either mains powered, or by battery, and can either be set up covertly anywhere on the exterior of the home, or used inside the home.

They have a motion sensor, and can record clearly during either the day or night in high definition colour.

They are housed in a discreet, compact and undetectable unit.

This neighbourhood watch initiative is designed to improve community safety, and the collection of evidence based material for residents when reporting to police or Crime Stoppers.

Metford Neighbourhood Watch is thought to be the first Neighbourhood Watch group nationwide to trial the scheme, and Medowie Neighbourhood Watch is looking forward to following in their footsteps to ensure they are doing all they can to help the residents of Medowie feel safe.

Deputy Mayor Chris Doohan has been supportive of the initiative to raise funds for the cameras, and is supporting the Medowie Neighbourhood Watch in their application to Port Stephens Council for some assistance to see this program become a reality.
