SafeWork Australia tells us that workplace injuries cost the economy $61.8 billion a year, a cost that the whole community bears the brunt of.

This October we are being urged to check our workplaces and share our knowledge on how to improve workplace safety.

Darrell Barnett of Soldiers Point Marina told News Of The Area, “As employers, managers and employees everyone is responsible for safe workplaces.”

He believes that a safe workplace is part of having a good workplace.

“We all want to go home to our families at the end of the day and we all need to have a safe environment to work in,” he said.

If you would like to find out about how to add a Safe Work Month activity or campaign in your workplace, you can find out more at the Safe Work Australia website where you can download the free kit with posters and messages for your workplace as well as safety activities and the free guide to building a safe and healthy workplace.

Businesses that participate in a competition on the site could win $5000 in prize money.

Everyone in the community benefits from safer workplaces.
