One was scheduled for 2015, however the fire that destroyed the clubhouse resulted in its cancellation. The course proved challenging for all the players. Only three of the Professional field broke par for their round. In the presentation that followed, Max Pride, president of the Nelson Bay Golf Club, welcomed everyone. Maurie Moses, Nelson Bay’s Professional then interviewed Peter Lonard, USPGA Seniors Tour player and Nathan Green, USPGA Tour player. Their responses provided a fascinating insight into life as a Professional and the many highlights that remain with players who have played with some of the great Champions of the past two decades. Peter and Nathan were very generous in their acknowledgement of the high standards set by the Greens staff in the presentation and condition of the course and speed of the greens. Peter considered the course “a very good test of any player” and a course that “brings the best out of a Professional.” Warren Moses, Nelson Bay Professional, then presented the prizes to the Amateur players. The winners of the Team event were Jordan Zunic (Pro), Dean Purtle, Ryan Connor and Gary Ensor. The presentation of prizes to the Professionals was made by Peter Weldon NSW/ACT Tournament Director of the Australian PGA. Winners were Jake Higginbottom and Andrew Evans. In his closing speech, Peter complemented both the Club and the Greens staff for their preparations for the event. In his view, the Nelson Bay Golf Club venue should be a permanent fixture on the NSW/ACT Pro-Am series calendar. By David BIRSS
