IN the decade or so that it has been functioning, Tilligerry Auto Club has forwarded some $112 000 to the John Hunter Children’s Hospital Paediatric Oncology Unit.

The money has been raised at the annual Motorama which draws around 500 vehicles of all descriptions vying for prizes in around 20 categories.

The $10 entry fee, donations and raffles account for the bulk of the money presented to this very worthy charity.

This year saw a gala dinner and presentation night at the White Wattle Restaurant in Tanilba’s Golf Club.

President Ian Jones presented a cheque for $12 000 to hospital representatives Carly Crispin and Jamie Chase.

The club also presented a trophy to one of its own, Rob Shenn, who took out the best local car club prize for his beautifully presented 1996 Ford Mustang.

The bulk of the money will go to refurbishment of the Oncology Unit at the hospital.

Walls will be removed to create more bed space. Extra furnishings will also be purchased to accommodate parents of the children being treated. Air conditioning units will be upgraded.

Ian said that it was great to visit the hospital and see the smiling faces of the children.

“We were particularly pleased that our work was mentioned in the NSW Parliament this year. This sort of thing makes all those hours of hard work somehow seem worthwhile.”
