During their stay, they will learn about the history and culture of the area, as well as learning about traveling abroad. They will also complete activities like hikes, that will earn them badges on their return. Scout Leader, Louise Healy told News Of The Area, “My aim as their leader, is to teach them new life skills, independence, develop their confidence and self esteem, open their eyes to other communities which are different to theirs and hopefully encourage future travel opportunities for them.” “We are hoping as a group, that the community may like to donate any appreciated amount which will go towards helping my group experience this travel opportunity to Norfolk.” “We are needing donations which will help pay for the hire of the Girl Guide Hall in Norfolk Island, hire three, eight seater vans to transport us to Sydney International airport and vans in Norfolk Island, fuel for the vans, food and insurance,” she said. “Our Scouts are helping with the costs by fundraising as well, as raffles and trivia nights.” The Norfolk Island Girl Guides were recently able to experience Europe and Alaska through donations and fundraising. Anna Bay Scouts feel that if the comparatively small community on Norfolk Island can achieve this, then as a community we can assist the Anna Bay Scouts to achieve their dream. So far, the Scouts group has received sponsorship from Port Stephens Council, Diemars Oysters, Emerald Tiki Caravan Park, Woolworths and Salamander Newsagents. They are still looking for people and local businesses who feel they may be able to help in some way with either monetary donations or items for raffles. “Your help will be very much appreciated, and you will know that this group of children will be very much rewarded in this experience,” Louise said.
