June 17 marks a historic day for Medowie & Districts Rugby Club, when they will be hosting the first ever round of Premier Rugby at Boyd Oval, Medowie.

This memorable day will begin with all Medowie junior teams playing a home game, with the first game to take the field at 9am, and the 19s team also playing at 11:10am.

Premier Rugby 3 will kick off at 12:30, with Medowie taking on Merewether.

This game will see a hard battle between the two formidable opponents.

Medowie is set for a great game if they can harness the momentum from last week’s 50-7 win against Singleton Army into this week’s match.

1:45pm will see Nelson Bay go head to head with Waratah in Premier 2, in what is set to be an interesting match.

At 3pm the Premier 1 match will kick off with Nelson Bay and Waratah doing battle in what is promised to be hard fought and fast paced game.

Regardless of any final scores, the winner of the day will undoubtedly be local rugby, with a packed day of rugby and club competition from 9am until 5:45pm.

Jackie Murphy from Medowie & Districts Rugby Club told News Of The Area, “Premier Rugby coming to Medowie came about as a result of Medowie and Nelson Bay having a Memorandum of Understanding to work together with the two clubs.”

“One of the items to come out of this fantastic agreement is the success of bringing Premier Rugby to Medowie.”

“Medowie has invested a lot of effort and money to make the day a success, and hopefully everyone that attends will enjoy themselves whilst watching the highest level of rugby available in the Hunter,” she said.

Seniors matches are also set to be televised.

Come along and support our local Rugby Club as they take on the next level of Newcastle and Hunter Rugby Union.
