Camp Quality has been operating since 1983, providing assistance to families of children aged 0-13 diagnosed with cancer. This may be financial assistance, fun trips away, and entertainment for children in hospital, as well as education programs in schools and putting families in contact with others on the same journey. Carol became involved in the charity through a friend and has been volunteering at the charity’s local office in Warners Bay for the last 10 years. She also performs a housekeeping role at the charity’s family holiday house in Salamander Bay. A veteran trekker, this will be Carol’s third major sponsored adventure, having previously walked the Kokoda Track and the Sandakan Death March in Borneo. Between Carol and Jodi, they have raised a staggering $12,500. Jodi wishes to acknowledge Steve Harding from Bayside Jewellers in Nelson Bay who has been a very generous corporate sponsor and mentor. These formidable ladies have been training for three months, with aerobics three times a week and long bush walks through rugged terrain carrying 6kg backpacks. The wider group of intrepid trekkers of 13 ladies and one man is made up of volunteers and those touched by cancer. They are planning to walk 15-19kms some days and 25-29kms on other days, depending on the terrain. Temperatures in the area currently range from freezing nights to the low 20s during the day. Jodi, who became involved through her daughter, who is a volunteer, told News Of The Area that she was “excited and ready, having done a lot of training. I’m really looking forward to it”. The fearless duo are still looking for sponsors. All money raised will stay in the local area, which ranges from Wyong to Dubbo to Coffs Harbour.
