PLANS to re-establish the Leos Club at Bulahdelah Central School are well underway and community-minded young people in Years 7-12 are encouraged to get involved.

“Leos is a project of the Lion’s Club and we would like to see this flourish,” District Governor Glenn Byrnes said.

“It is about citizenship, becoming part of the community and having lots of fun.”

Governor Byrnes told News Of The Area, once the club is up and running, the students will decide on the projects they will work towards.

“Leos programs are designed to help young people so the students will identify what their needs are,” he said.

“There’s a skate park that’s under way in town or they can look at a number of other areas, such as Lions Park or even work on providing a children’s playground, you name it, the possibilities are endless.”

Governor Byrnes said the Leos Club will not only assist the community, but will also give students the chance to gain life and career skills that are highly valued by employers.

This year, Lions Clubs around the world will celebrate 100 years of serving communities with local Centenary Celebrations occurring midyear.

Some of their many projects include distributing glasses to Third World countries, disaster relief and supporting Breakfast Club programs.

“When you see the outcome of what you do, whether it is just by doing work or by donating funds to people in need, you really feel good about it,” Governor Byrnes said.

The Leos Club at Bulahdelah Central School was originally established in 2014.

Local Lions and Deputy Principal Mrs Deb Gilbert, who are the driving force behind the clubs “reinvigoration,” recently met with Governor Byrnes and Zone Chairperson Inga Kasch to discuss the plans.

The first meeting of the Leos Club is expected to be held in the coming weeks.
