A proposal from the Chamber to move the library to the Rural Transaction Centre was the main topic of discussion.

According to Chamber Vice-President Kevin Carter, the move would allow the service to be expanded with the larger space available and improve access for residents through extended opening hours.

The move would also mean that the library could be operated at minimal cost to Council.

Mr Carter said retaining community services was a priority for the Chamber.

“We have recently lost some services in the town, so it is important to retain the existing facilities,” he said.

“In addition to the general community, we have an aging population who utilise the services, so we need to keep them going.”

Although Council did not indicate if the move would be a viable option at the time of the meeting, Mr Carter felt the discussions were positive.

Further discussions between Council and the Chamber are expected to take place in the coming week.
