When a distinguished Police Officer, former Police Inspector Ronald Firth, passed away, Superintendent Craner discovered he had been awarded an award for ‘good Policemanship’ whilst writing information for a speech on the officer. He decided to reinstate the award, and present it to a retired officer once a year, in memory of Ronald Firth, on Retired Police Day. This year, being its inaugural year, Craner asked Ronald Firth’s Daughter Kate to accept the award on his behalf. Superintendent Craner told News Of The Area, “It adds another special element to our Retired Police Day, where we can get together, share stories and remember good things – and now also honour one of our own for their contributions to the community.” Too often, we are quick to judge Police officers for what we think they are not doing, rather than acknowledging all the hard work they do in our community, and the fact that every day they walk out of their homes, they are risking their lives for our safety.
