Lions Club President Roger Dixon told News Of The Area the members were pleased to be able to assist the cricket club. “It’s a worthy cause for a local organisation and it will be good for the town as well,” Mr Dixon said. “The club needed the funds to help them get established and we are more than happy to assist.” Mr Allen said club members were looking forward to playing the first competition game on their home pitch which was recently repaired with a funds provided through a State Government grant. “The pitch is great, we’ve got some turn in it, so the ball moves off the wicket better,” he said. “It’s very spin friendly, so anyone who can spin a ball gets a reward for being a good spin bowler.” Mr Allen has had a long history with cricket competitions in the Manning area and hopes a bat that he recently had signed by Australian cricket great Michael Clarke will inspire club members.
