Clarence Town Progress Association President John Moyes said, “The new bridge is long overdue, temporary girders have been on it for around 20 years. “The bridge has only held up due to continued maintenance. “Limeburners Creek Road has not been seen as a regional road and therefore has not had priority.” The Brig O’Johnston Bridge upgrade will take up to 24 months to complete but will remain open to traffic during construction. It is hoped that the bridge upgrades will streamline heavy vehicle access to Clarence Town. Currently, trucks travelling through Limeburners Creek Road have to detour through Seaham or Glen Martin.
