The Centre is a well known gateway to the Camden Haven, with thousands of visitors dropping in each year, and is home to one of the only Driver Reviver stops in the region. Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Volunteers gathered at the iKew Visitor Centre on Nancy Bird Walton Drive in Kew – the home to one of Australia’s official ‘big things’, the ‘Big Axe’ – to hear the news from State Member Leslie Williams on Tuesday 11 June, 2024. The grant will provide much-needed funds for upkeep and maintenance to the Centre, so that volunteers can continue their important work welcoming visitors to the Camden Haven. “Congratulations to all the volunteers,” Ms Williams said. “The improvements to the building will assist you to keep up the good work you have been doing all these years, thank you.” The Community Building Partnership program funded by the NSW State Government supports local groups like the iKew Visitor Information Centre that deliver positive social, environmental and recreational outcomes, or improve community cohesion and participation. The Centre is managed and run by a passionate group of 25 volunteers, covering shifts seven days a week, six hours a day. One volunteer told News Of The Area that even simple recommendations were a big help to visitors. “Take the coast road, enjoy the region, visit the Camden Haven and head on up to Port Macquarie via Lake Cathie,” the volunteer offered as an example.
