Woman dies after caught in rip at Coffs Harbour


A woman has died and a child has been rescued after both were caught in a rip at Coffs Harbour.

About 5.20pm on Tuesday 2 January, emergency services were called to Park Beach at Coffs Harbour and were told the woman had been swimming with a young family member when they were swept out to sea.

The child was brought safely to shore, but the woman was found unresponsive in the water a short time later.

She was brought to the beach and CPR initiated; however, the 50-year-old woman was unable to be revived.

Officers attached to Coffs/Clarence Police District established a crime scene and commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police will prepare a report regarding the woman’s death for the information of the Coroner.
