The five-day course covers a range of practical and theoretical topics including voice, creating content, interviewing techniques, studio operations, program development and production.

The training at 104.1 CHYFM has been developed with young people in mind, is industry-based, interactive, and most of all, fun.

After the training, the 104.1 CHYFM team continues to mentor and support participants in their journey from students to confident on-air presenters and a regular broadcast shift.

104.1 CHYFM Station Manager Angie Vaughan told News Of The Area, “One of the best things about community radio is it’s a great place to learn skills that transverse many areas of your life.

“Our workshop builds confidence, enhances communication skills and grows community connections.

“You never know what exciting experiences and opportunities it can lead to.

“Many of our previous students met with someone in their workshop and went on to form fabulous on-air
partnerships.

“Having a voice in your community is very powerful – especially youth voices – sharing stories, passions, hobbies, experiences, connecting with the community, and it’s a great way to create positive change.”

With 104.1 CHYFM celebrating 50 years of youth broadcasting, the team is offering ten young people the chance to take this five-day workshop – usually $250.00 – for free.

“Only those genuinely wanting to be part of the station’s on-air presenters will be accepted,” said Angie.

“All we ask is that you make a donation to the station.

“All donations over $2 are tax deductible.”
