He emphasised the importance of remembering the sacrifices made by those who have served in the defence of the nation. He spoke of the significance of Remembrance Day and the duty to honour the memory of those who fought for the freedoms we enjoy today. The Macksville service included the traditional laying of wreaths at the Memorial, a poignant symbol of respect and gratitude for the fallen. Attendees including veterans, their families, representatives from local schools and community members stood together in silence on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month. “The Remembrance Day service acts as a reminder of the ongoing impact of war on communities and individuals,” Mr MacKay told News Of The Area. It was a moment for people to come together and acknowledge the debt owed to those who have defended their country in times of conflict. Similar services conducted in Nambucca Heads, Bowraville, Scotts Head, Taylors Arms and Stuarts Point on Remembrance Day reinforces the community’s commitment to honouring the past and educating future generations about the importance of remembrance. “We stand before the cenotaph that was built as a memorial to the fallen and reflect on how far we have come as a nation and hope that we have somehow done them proud,” Mr MacKay said.
