Email us – media@newsofthearea.com.au Held on Saturday 28 October at the Ulong Hall, the resilience mini expo will start at 3.30pm and wind up around 6pm. “There will be marquees and representatives from the Rural Fire Service ( RFS), and other First Responders units. “We will be playing the Australian Red Cross video on continuous loop which shows loads of fire-ready practices and tips. “There will be Grab Bags and giveaways as well,” said Carol. “This is a locals’ event for the locals so they can talk personally, and the recommendations are relevant and applicable to Ulong and Lowanna Mountain living.” To further foster a feeling of community, Carol has borrowed a bull truck, lent to her by local farmer Cr Rodger Pryce, upon which a local band, One26Bends, will play throughout the afternoon. The Ulong community thanks the City Of Coffs Harbour Resilience and Recovery team for supporting this event. Carol’s daughter, Katie Sibio, will be launching a community fundraiser that will cause more than a few belly laughs. “Our pièce de résistance is to create a calendar with photos of our local mountain men – think of Man Power but better – featuring our RFS and community members in funny resilience-ready poses with their chainsaws, dogs, rakes, braces, beer bellies and all, and assign each one to a month in the calendar. “We’ll sell the calendar and funds will go towards the fit-out of the Ulong Hall, maybe buying a generator or water tank, whatever we can get with the money raised,” Katie told NOTA.
