IT was the end of an era when Lion Peter Webb, the longest serving President in the 68 years of the Tea Gardens Lions, passed the baton to Lion Doug Allen during a delightful Changeover Dinner hosted at Mumm’s on the Myall.

Peter has been the President for four years, navigating the club through the COVID years, culminating in this big year which he summarised in his annual report stating, “We hit the ground running, with work continuing on the Bennetts
Beach Frieze Wall, Bunnings, caravan park and other BBQs, festive season raffles and all other activities we were able to conduct after being affected by COVID restrictions.

“We supported the Westpac Rescue Helicopter, Rural Fire Service, Myall Masters Swim Meet, Hawks Nest Triathlon, Seniors Expo, Election Day, Lakes Trail Festival, Progress Association Youth Day, as well as the Lions Need for Feed Christmas in July Toy Run for flood affected families in Lismore.

“As a result of our fundraising activities, approximately $23,400 was raised.

“We donated $13,200 to local charities (including the Free Clinic Bus, Tea Gardens School, Meals on Wheels, Myall Radio, RFS, Lions Park Lookout and others) and $7,450 to Lions Foundations (including Flood Appeal, Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Drug Awareness and Alzheimer’s Foundation).”

Peter acknowledged and thanked all Lions, in particular the outgoing Lions Club Board comprising 1st Vice President Helen Watkins, 2nd Vice President Robert Dorman, Secretary Amanda Sykes, Service Chairperson Ann Hill, Treasurer Marlene Stokes, and Membership Chairperson Doug Allen.

The new Board has two new members, notably Lion Carole Richards serving as the new Membership Chairperson, and incoming President Doug Allen.

Previous District Governor, Lion Alan McKim, oversaw the Changeover, congratulating the club on their success.

Incoming President Doug Allen’s first order of business was to congratulate and thank Peter Webb, stating, “He has left the Club in such excellent shape that Tea Gardens Lions Club is now the largest club in the District, which covers the area from Gosford to Mudgee to Scone and across to Bulahdelah.”

This growth was evident in the induction of, and warm welcome to, three new members, Ian MacAuley, Robin MacAuley, and Annie Fowler.

Peter and Leone Webb are taking a well deserved extended holiday.
