Music unites Coffs Harbour’s youth for a better tomorrow

Purple Disturbance are excited to be playing at the ‘Concert For Climate’.

THE Community Union Defense League (CUDL) and the Coffs Youth Climate Alliance (CYCA) have collaborated to produce their first social fundraiser, a Concert For Climate focused predominantly on reaching the youth of the area.

Scheduled for Friday 28 April at the Botanic Gardens, the fundraiser will support both organisations, each of which are involved in efforts to combat homelessness, food insecurity and climate change.

The concert is being developed to be a night of fun and inspiration, with local youth bands such as The Crets, Purple Disturbance and Blind Pretty taking to the stage.

“By attending this event, you can make a difference in the lives of those who need it most and contribute to the ongoing fight against climate change,” said Coffs Youth Climate Action spokesperson Zeek Mattarollo.

“We are organising a concert with predominantly youth and local bands, fostering community spirit and fundraising for great causes.

“The CUDL has operated a bi-weekly street kitchen for the needy in Coffs Harbour for several years.

“Getting the funds so that our community can continue to prop itself up in solidarity is a tough challenge,” said Zeek.
CUDL members believe that issues relating to homelessness, food insecurity and climate change can be solved, and that broad political change is required to achieve those goals.

“Through broad community support and revolutionary optimism, we can create the change we wish to see, and this concert is our first step in creating the platform for us to do that.”

The concert has garnered significant support from a variety of organisations, including the Bellingen Activist Network, the national CUDL network, and in-house sponsorship from Broken Open Productions.

“With such tremendous backing, this event is set to be an exciting and meaningful experience for everyone in Coffs Harbour,” said Zeek.

In addition to the smorgasbord of musical performances, attendees will have the chance to hear from local activists and voice their concerns about the current state of our planet.

The concert is an opportunity for the youth and the broader community of Coffs Harbour to come together and take the first step in creating the platform for change we all want to see.
