A TOTAL of $13,107,265 will be provided to improve three key Hunter region roads to better withstand natural disasters through the Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Package, which is equally co-funded by the Commonwealth and NSW governments.

“In total three projects in the Hunter have been recommended for funding, which will ensure the infrastructure will be rebuilt to a higher standard, making it more resilient to future disasters,” said Parliamentary Secretary for the Hunter Taylor Martin.

$5.15 million will go towards raising the road level of Nelson Bay Road between Frost Road and Gan Gan Road, and improving drainage to reduce the impact from flooding.

$4 million has been pledged for the repair and upgrade of transverse drainage of the Pacific and New England Highways at Hexham.

Newcastle Council will receive $3,957,265 for the renewal of Old Maitland Road at Hexham including shoulder construction on both sides.
