Countdown on to Hawks Nest’s second Seniors Festival

A CELEBRATION of the area’s seniors comes to Hawks Nest on Saturday February 11, for the second (and biggest) ‘Let’s Celebrate Together’ Seniors Expo, proudly sponsored by the NSW Government and the Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association Incorporated.

The NSW Seniors Festival is on now across the state (1-12 February) and the local festival, coming to Hawks Nest on Saturday 11 February, is part of the largest celebration of seniors in the southern hemisphere.

It is important to note that the festival is in a new location this year.

“We have revamped the old Scout Hall, off Yamba Street in the Myall Sports Park behind the Tennis Club and next to the Croquet Club in Hawks Nest,” said Bruce Murray, President, Hawks Nest Tea Gardens Progress Association.

“Thank you to the local Boxing Club and Scouts NSW for supporting us at this venue.

“I would also like to thank the Tea Gardens Lions Club in advance for their support with the marquees, the stage and their legendary BBQ service – a free sausage sandwich for everyone!”

This year’s Seniors Expo will feature over 45 stalls representing a great range of local service groups, senior support agencies, sporting and social clubs, local businesses, and arts and craft.

“Our beach and riverside community is amazing so come along and enjoy,” said Bruce.

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony performed by Uncle Justin Ridgeway from the Worimi Local Aboriginal Land Council and Murrook Cultural Centre at Williamtown will open the event.

Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington and Mr Murray will also be there to welcome the community and acknowledge a few local achievers.

“We then have great live music with local band SAGE playing as well as the Tea Gardens School and Community Band, and local musicians, David Peart and Ewald Jordaan,” said Bruce.

“There will be lots of shady seats for everyone to enjoy the entertainment.

“Remember to bring along your free Lucky Door Prize Ticket and buy a raffle ticket as there are great prizes thanks to the generosity of Tea Gardens Coles, Karryn Bartlett – Your Local Travel Manager, Bohemian Spirit, the Golf Club, Hawks Nest IGA, Mungo Surf Shop, Tea Gardens County Club, Tea Gardens Hotel, Krystal’s Massage Therapy, The Garden Eatery, Art and Craft Group, Two Fat Bakers, Myall River Bakery, and Hawks Nest Pharmacy.

“There is also a fun old fashioned chocolate wheel, side show alley, ice cream van, coffee van, Red Cross cake store….lots to see and do.

“Finally, to all the hardworking volunteers your service makes positive things happen – thank you.

“See you on Saturday 11 February from 10am-3pm for a fun day,” Bruce said.
