Karuah Public School ready for National Schools Clean Up Day Karuah, North Arm Cove by NOTA - March 31, 2016 Earlier this month an army of youngsters descended onto the grounds of Karuah Primary School like an army ready for battle. (Photo: Megan Saffioti) They fought and won a good battle, the battle of establishing and helping maintain a clean and healthy environment around the school as part of ‘National Schools Clean Up Day’. Students across Australia have embarked on a rubbish scavenger hunt. Wearing gloves and carrying rubbish bags, students hit the school yard and surrounding areas for the 25th National Schools Clean Up Day. And the battle itself I’m pleased to say, wasn’t ever going to be a massive one anyway, having visited this school many times it is always as clean as a pin, so I’m surprised that the students actually found anything to pick up. Year 1/2 teacher Ms Lisa McGowan organised the annual event saying “teachers can educate school students of any age about environmental sustainability”. They all worked as a team and pick up rubbish both inside and outside the school grounds.” Since 1992, school communities across Australia have demonstrated their support for caring for the environment through participating in Schools Clean Up Day.
