AUTHOR Annie Seaton has a new walking regime which is taking the prolific writer around her beloved Nambucca Heads.

“My new walking regime is a continuation of the sporadic walks I’ve done ever since we moved to Nambucca Heads over 30 years ago,” Annie told News Of The Area.

“I’ve spent so much time in the study writing over the past ten years, I realised I needed a more consistent and structured approach to exercise.”

Too often, the day at her desk quickly disappears into the night.

A desire to get a little bit fitter, and to be further inspired by our beautiful local landscapes spurred Annie into her new habit.

“I’m enjoying walking, sometimes alone, sometimes in the company of my husband Ian, and most often with our dog, Toby,” she said.

Toby’s favourite walk is down the Bill Babbs Track and along Swimming Creek beach.

“I started off the New Year with that favourite walk.

“I took a towel and a book and had a break in the middle of the walk at Black Rock while Toby frolicked in the water.”

According to Annie, one of the best things about living in Nambucca Heads is that most walks around the water are accessible to her without having to drive.

“I simply slip on my walking shoes and hat, step out the front door, and decide whether to go left or right.

“We have so many beautiful walks in town: river, bush and beach.”

Walking provides a wonderful opportunity for the mind to take its own amble along.

“As I walk, I think of the story I am currently writing and more often than not, get inspiration for a scene or a new direction for the characters.

“I’ve started listening to audiobooks recently and have considered taking earbuds with me, but on second thoughts, I realised I would miss the sounds around me: the birds, the waves, and the occasional hello from acquaintances or friendly visitors.”

Annie has valued taking some time out over the holiday break.

“Last year was a very busy writing and publishing year with the release of thirteen books in eBook and print, ten audiobooks and the launch of East of Alice which has remained on the bestseller lists since its November 2022 release.

“To begin this year, I have a release of the last two books in the Augathella Girls series in January and February and then a book tour to Charleville in March.

“However, I will continue to walk when we are at home,” she promised herself.
