Karuah and District RSL Club has been named as a finalist in the prestigious 2016 Clubs and Community Awards.

The Awards recognise the immense contribution clubs make to their local area across a range of categories.

Recognised for supplying healthy breakfasts to Karuah Public School students, the RSL Club has been involved in the program for over three years.

Working in conjunction with Karuah Public School P&C Association, the program runs four days a week during the school year providing a healthy breakfast to 70 children each day.

President of Karuah and District RSL Club Mr Peter Fidden, said the program has expanded over the years.

“We became involved because a lot of kids were going to school without breakfast, but now they can start the day with a healthy meal,” he said.

“Our involvement has grown from just supplying the milk to picking up the tab for the whole lot.”

Mr Fidden said he is proud the members of the club have been recognised in the awards.

“We are very pleased to be named as a finalist,” he said.

“We’ve put a lot of effort into the program over the last few years, and it’s now become a part of the community.”

Soldiers Point and Hexham Bowling Clubs have also been named as finalists in the awards.

Paterson MP Bob Baldwin congratulated the clubs for their contributions to their communities.

“I commend the local clubs and their employees for reaching the finals of these prestigious awards and wish them well at the next round,” Mr Baldwin said.

“Local clubs play an important part in our community and I’m delighted that these clubs have been recognised for such different achievements.”

Winners will be announced at the official Awards Ceremony on Friday 6 May at the Royal Hall of Industries in Sydney’s Moore Park.
