The National Medal recognises long-time service by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in enforcement of the law or in times of emergency or natural disaster. Member for Port Stephens Kate Washington told News Of The Area, “It was my honour to present Deputy Unit Commander Steve Vautier with a National Medal in recognition of his fifteen years of service as a Marine Rescue volunteer. “The medal is well-deserved recognition of Steve’s selfless service to our community and country,” she said.
