Julie Kovendy and Splash support wildlife through music

Julie Kovendy and Splash, who are Jimm Jamm, Julie Kovendy and Ethan Frankel, donated their time and talent to help our wildlife at the Matilda Street Gallery in Macksville last Saturday night.

LAST Saturday night, 3 December, visitors to the Matilda Street Gallery in Macksville were treated to an evening of Jazz Standards, Latin, and 60s pop by the Mid North Coast’s hottest three piece outfit known as Julie Kovendy and Splash.

Julie and her accomplices in music, guitarist Ethan Frankel and bass man Jimm Jamm, delivered two hours of often funky and always cool sounds all to raise money for the Mid North Coast Branch of the Wildlife Information and Education Service (WIRES-MNC).

The cost of entry was a donation to WIRES with some of the guests showing that they love their native wildlife as much as they love music by digging deep with over $560 being raised to support the care of sick, injured or orphaned wildlife here on the Mid North Coast.

The trio were in perfect form for the entire gig and their interpretations put new life into classics like the Seekers’ ‘Georgie Girl’ and the more contemporary ‘Valerie’ made famous by Amy Winehouse.

Even the lesser known latin numbers were lapped up by patrons as Julie’s soulful and soothing vocals braided perfectly into Ethans intricate fretwork and Jimm’s perfect bass.

A WIRES-MNC spokesperson told News Of The Area, “It is so touching that this incredibly talented group of musicians went to all this effort to produce such a beautiful performance and did it free of charge so they could help care for our wildlife.”

The Matilda Street Gallery is no stranger to intimate gigs such as this and the evening was also the opening of their open Summer Art Show.
