SIXTEEN volunteers have managed to clear an important local wildflower walk that has lain almost untouched for three years since the start of COVID restrictions.

The Thursday Walkers Group spent a sunny morning working on The Michael Rowe Memorial Walk that winds behind the dunes from Hawks Nest Surf Club to the boundary of the Myall Lakes National Park on Mungo Brush Road.

Work was needed where storms had blocked the path with fallen trees and bush debris and regrowth after all the rain had closed the pathway.

Group co-ordinator Ray Hughes thanked everyone for their work on the track, which had become an annual tradition for the walkers.

The walk is very significant for its magnificent wildflower displays.

“It’s possibly the best I’ve seen here in many years,” said Adrienne Ingram, who co-ordinated with the Bitou Busters weeding group.

“The walk is now open for all to enjoy.”
