THE Nambucca Valley’s most acclaimed cultural export, rapper/singer/songwriter Tasman Keith, came home last weekend and shook the foundations of the Bowraville Theatre with a sold out show that totally lived up to expectations.

As well as delivering concert goers favourites from the earlier work that launched his career as a serious artist, Bowraville’s favourite son stepped through his critically acclaimed debut album, ‘A Colour Undone’, work that is described by New Music Express as an album that “can’t and won’t be ignored”.

The night opened with a hard-hitting set from the first special guest, the Sydney based rapper, Mickillakid.

Mickillakid, often referred to as Hip-hop’s long lost nephew, worked the crowd up and then handed over to the multi styled Phil Fresh who’s rapping style, richly sewn with hip-hop, pop and RnB influences, took those gathered to the next level.

By the time Tasman Keith graced the stage the audience were ready and they devoured the feast of original and deep musical creations that, for everyone in the house, were as home-grown as they come.

In conveying the tracks from A Colour Undone, Keith’s storytelling was absolutely on point and his conviction and confidence level on stage indicated that he knew he was among friends and in this unique case, also among family.

The unanimous opinion from concert goers of all ages was that Keith, supported by his equally energised band, could do it all.

With his moves, his voice, his look and stage presence Tasman Keith delivered a master class in class which would be suited to any great concert hall or stadium in the world.

A moment that sent fans into overdrive was when Tasman was joined on stage by his father Will ‘Wire MC’ Jarrett and it became clear that so much of his gift is in his blood.

Even Tasman’s little brother Damien got in on the act for an impromptu drum solo.

After the gig Tasman Keith told News Of The Area, “It has been a beautiful experience to share this show with Bowraville and I want to build on what we did here tonight and come back every year.”

The volunteer team who run the Bowraville Theatre were highly complimentary of the artists and crew linked to the show, with volunteer Phil Verness saying, “They have been an absolute pleasure to work with.”
