Vale to our fallen. We will never forget the ladies and men who fought for our Nation in many wars and overseas deployments, which in turn has ensured we have been able to keep and respect our way of life for current and future generations.

ANZAC Day is coming, but for me, it’s not just about ‘one day.’ ANZAC Day of course is a commemoration of what occurred to our Diggers at ANZAC Cove in Turkey nearly 101 years ago.

The legend of the ANZAC should never be forgotten, along with the sacrifices so many have made for Australia since then, and having close friends who have endured battles during service overseas and seeing their constant battles with medical issues like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, I reflect on and respect our Diggers, both new and old, every single day.

The ANZAC Spirit was alive and well at last years Anzac Day Ceremony at Karuah, where, despite adverse conditions and even a power outage due to the April storms, a strong contingent of people attended and participated in the ANZAC Day March to the memorial behind Karuah Public School, including the towns two remaining WW2 Veterans who were chauffeured in refurbished Army Jeeps.

This year will prove no different, with about 500 people expected for the March down the street for the official ceremony followed by breakfast at the Karuah RSL, and then enjoying Two-Up from 2pm until late.

Speaking with News Of The Area, Ross Parr from Karuah RSL said, “ANZAC Day is by far the biggest day for us here at the club, and as an Australian for me, the most rewarding day of the year paying respect to those that have sacrificed everything so we can have what we enjoy today.”

“It’s a solemn experience every ANZAC Day, I think everyone is touched by the importance of the day in its entirety.” he said.

The Karuah Dawn Service will commence at 5.50am from outside Tony Kings Garage and then proceed to Memorial Park for the dawn service at 6am. Breakfast will be available at the Club following the Dawn Service. Members and Guests are welcome.
